Preliminary figures show that there were 4,427.000 men in Belarus as of early 2017, 6,000 up from the start of 2016, BelTA learned from the National Statistics Committee.

According to the official statistics, the number of men in Belarus was at 4,398.000 as of 1 January 2012 and as of 1 January 2013, 4,401.000 as of 1 January 2014, 4,409.000 as of 1 January 2015, and 4,421.000 as of 1 January 2016.

Over a long period of time the share of males remained unchanged, 46.6% of the country's total population.

Three quarters of the Belarusian male population are urban dwellers. Each fifth man (20.3%) lives in Minsk.

The average Belarusian man is 37. Men living in the rural area are older than male urban residents (41 and 36 years old respectively).

65% of men in Belarus are in their working age. 16% of males make up a senior age group, while every fifth man has not yet reached the age of official employment. The labor force participation rate of males stands at 49.3%. Production, construction and transport are traditionally considered male types of economic activities.

In 2016 a total of 64,500 men got married. 46,100 of them were married for the first time. The average age to get married for men in Belarus was 27.8 in 2016. The typical man remarried at 41.3.

On average, Belarusian men prefer to make a family at the age of 20-29. Every third male who got married last year was at the age of 25-29, every fourth – 20-24 years old.

Belarus marks Fatherland Defenders' Day on 23 February. The holiday celebrates people who are serving or were serving in the Belarusian Armed Forces. Unofficially, it has also come to include the celebration of men as a whole, and the holiday is often referred to as Man's Day.
