Possible decision on ways to set up digital economy ministry in Belarus in June

Friday, 11 May 2018

The mechanism for setting up a digital economy ministry in Belarus may be determined in June, BelTA learned from Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov on 10 May.

The official said: “Work is now in progress on how it should be done, whether it should be a brand new ministry or a ministry based on some government agency. The news will be released soon, I think, in June.”

In his words, a number of government conferences have already been held to discuss the matter. The Communications and Informatization Ministry is part of the process to establish the digital economy ministry in Belarus.

BelTA reported earlier that the head of state has instructed the government to come up with proposals regarding the establishment of a digital economy ministry in the country. The Digital Economy Promotion Council is busy preparing the proposals. The council includes representatives of government agencies, the private sector, and the IT industry.
