Belarus expects tighter international cooperation to help better fight cybercrime

04.06.2019

Stronger international cooperation will help more effectively fight cybercrime. The statement was made by Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Valery Mitskevich at a regional conference of the International Association of Prosecutors in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Valery Mitskevich said: “I am convinced that it is possible to effectively counteract cybercrime only by bolstering international cooperation in the field, by fruitfully sharing the national experience. I believe such joint work should be constantly improved taking into account new emerging risks, threats to national and regional security.”

Belarus has always been and remains a vigorous proponent of interaction in all spheres of life, this is why the country is extremely interested in advancing effective cooperation of law enforcement agencies, Valery Mitskevich noted.

As for information and communications technologies, Belarus has made significant accomplishments in this field, greatly improving the quality of the nation's life. Yet the advance of technologies increases the risk of new crimes. On the whole, cybercrime and its extreme manifestation – cyber terrorism – represent a serious threat not only to the social and political stability of individual countries but the entire global community. This is why Belarus takes active measures to ensure security in the region.

The International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) is one of the organizers of the regional conference in Minsk. The association is believed to be the engine that pushes for most progressive methods and forms of fighting crime.

The world's only organization of prosecutors was established in 1995. At present it includes over 180 member organizations from over 170 countries from all the continents as well as about 1,900 member individuals. Belarus is a full member of the association.

The conference has been organized by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Belarus and the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
