MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – Some 6.5% of areas planted to maize is left to harvest in Belarus, BelTA learned from the updates posted by the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 9 November, maize was harvested on the area of 1.133 million hectares, or 93.5% of the plan. Belarus harvested 982,500 hectares of maize for silage and fodder (98% of the plan) and gathered 22.591 million tonnes of grass feed with the yield at 229.9 centners per hectare. Harvesting of maize for grain continues and is 72.1% complete: 150,700 hectares were harvested, with 1,043,000 tonnes threshed.

A total of 9.104 million tonnes of grain, including maize, was harvested in the country, with the average yield of 38.8 centners per hectare (34.6 centners per hectare as of the same date in 2019). Minsk Oblast harvested 2.3 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast cropped 1.7 million tonnes, Brest Oblast - over 1.5 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – more than 1.2 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast over 1.1 million tonnes each.

As of 9 November, sugar beets were removed from 73,100 hectares, or 88.8% of the total areas planted to this crop. Some 3.512 million tonnes of sugar beets were harvested with an average yield of 480.2 centners per hectare. The sugar content stands at 16.27%. As far as other vegetable crops are concerned, Belarusian farmers cleared 5,790 hectares (96.6% of the plan), collected 162,700 tonnes of vegetables, with the yield of 281.1 centners per hectare.

Some 13.823 million tonnes of haylage (109.7% of the target) and 19.466 million tonnes of silage (101.5%) were stocked. Some 9.6 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed were put in stock as of 9 November (103.3% of the target).

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – We need to gradually convert the Minsk public transport to electric transport, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he attended the ceremony to launch the station of the third line of the Minsk metro, BelTA has learned.

"Minsk should gradually switch from vehicles powered by internal combustion engines to electric transport. This will be good to people's health,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged to pay special attention to trams. "We need to upgrade tram tracks to reduce noise levels. We produce good trams and these are good vehicles," he noted.

In this regard, the president mentioned the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Its first power unit has already been neglected to the country's unified power grid. "Electricity will be abundant. Our protesters are complaining that we have nowhere to use it. How come? We need to build another plant to get away from hydrocarbon dependence. It is a blessing," the head of state said.

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusian State Technological University will present its innovative solutions at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, BelTA learned from the website of the Education Ministry.

The exhibition will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center from 5 to 10 November. The center is ​​1.5 million square meters big. The exposition of the Education Ministry will feature innovative solutions of Belarusian State Technological University. They include a technology to apply nickel-diamond coating, self-cleaning antibacterial composite coatings, radioprotective glass, thin glasses and flexible glass films for solar batteries, dental cements and materials for dental purposes and some other products, the ministry informed.

The expo will feature several themed sections: Medical Equipment & Healthcare Products, Trade in Services, Automobile, Intelligence Industry & Information Technology, Consumer Goods, Food and Agricultural Products.

The event is organized with the support of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. The exhibition will be held under the auspices of the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The main task is to stimulate the growth of the global market, to overcome the crisis and to promote business cooperation between countries.

Belarus reports 88,701 coronavirus recoveries

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – As of 4 November, 88,701 patients previously diagnosed with COVID-19 recovered and were discharged from hospitals in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.

The nationwide COVID-19 tally has reached 102,313 cases. Belarus has performed 2,573,132 tests.

As many as 995 COVID-19 patients suffering from a number of chronic diseases have died since the infection's outbreak in Belarus.

MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – Belarusian farmers are finishing harvesting maize for silage and fodder, BelTA learned from the updates posted by the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 3 November maize was harvested on the area of 1.081 million hectares, or 88.7% of the plan. Belarus harvested 952,600 hectares of maize for silage and fodder (94.7% of the plan) and gathered 22.181 million tonnes of grass feed with the yield at 232.9 centners per hectare. Harvesting of maize for grain continues and is 60.5% complete: 129,000 hectares were harvested, with 893,600 tonnes threshed.

As of 3 November, sugar beets were removed from 66,500 hectares, or 80.8 of the total areas planted to this crop. Some 3.167 million tonnes of sugar beets were harvested with an average yield of 476 centners per hectare. The sugar content stands at 16.25%. As far as other vegetable crops are concerned, Belarusian farmers cleared 5,310 hectares (88.7% of the plan), collected 135,400 tonnes of vegetables, with the yield of 254.8 centners per hectare

A total of 8.953 million tonnes of grain was harvested in the country, with the average yield of 38.5 centners per hectare (34.5 centners per hectare as of the same date in 2019). Minsk Oblast harvested 2.2 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast cropped 1.7 million tonnes, Brest Oblast 1.5 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast 1.2 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast over 1.1 million tonnes and Gomel Oblast more than 1 million tonnes.

Some 13.749 million tonnes of haylage (109.1%) and 19.066 million tonnes of silage (99.5%) were stocked. Some 9.5 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed were put in stock as of 3 November, up by 1.9% of the target.

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – As of 1 November, 87,188 patients previously diagnosed with COVID-19 recovered and were discharged from hospitals in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.

The nationwide COVID-19 tally has reached 99,459 cases. Belarus has performed 2,522,817 tests.

As many as 985 COVID-19 patients suffering from a number of chronic diseases have died since the infection's outbreak in Belarus.

The Belarusian air carrier Belavia has extended suspension of air travel to Ashgabat till 1 January 2021, BelTA learned from the website of the airline.

Belavia will not fly to Riga, Tallinn, and Larnaca till 14 November and to all destinations in Georgia till 31 October. Flights to Budapest (except for 8 November) and Almaty will not be available till 27 March 2021.

Belavia has suspended flights to all destinations in Russia (except for Moscow Domodedovo Airport) because of the absence of permission from Russia.

Customers who purchased tickets for these travel dates will be able to apply for a refund or to reschedule their flights till 30 March 2021. Tickets can be refunded and flights can be rescheduled at company's offices and customer service centers.

Belarus' corner will be set up in the historic center of the Turkish capital, in Ankara Citadel, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Turkey.

Belarusian Ambassador to Turkey Viktor Rybak met with the founder of the Hamamarkası Cultural Foundation Erol Uruglu, who visited Minsk in March 2019 to get familiar with the Belarusian school of contemporary fine art.

Erol Uruglu told the ambassador about the preparations to open the cultural center in Ankara Citadel. Two rooms in this cultural center will be thematically dedicated to Belarus. It will display paintings by Belarusian artists, which are in the possession of the Turkish foundation, and the exhibits featuring Belarusian symbols: costumes, traditional souvenirs and promotion products.

The diplomatic mission noted that together with Erol Uruglu the embassy put up an exhibition of works by representatives of the Belarusian National Center for Contemporary Arts in Ankara in April-August 2019.

Most of the buildings of the citadel, where the cultural center will be located, are protected by UNESCO. The citadel houses the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations with exhibitions dedicated to the Hittites, the ancient Byzantines and the Ottoman Empire, and also a 12th century mosque.

The Belarusian air carrier Belavia will perform its first flight to Berlin Brandenburg "Willy Brandt" Airport on 6 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the air company.

“Berlin Brandenburg “Willy Brandt” Airport BER is scheduled to open on 31 October 2020. The first Belavia aircraft will land there (Terminal 1) on 6 November. From this date we will be performing flights to Berlin Brandenburg,” the airline's press service said.

Today, Belavia performs flights from Minsk to Berlin Schoenefeld Airport which is to be BER Terminal 5.

The construction of Berlin Brandenburg “Willy Brandt” Airport began in 2006. It was initially planned for commissioning in 2011. The new airport has about 4,000 rooms and is almost 1,500ha big.

The airport is located 28km away from downtown Berlin.
