08.07.2026

Minsk City Clinical Hospital No.10 is hosting a Chinese-Belarusian science and practice seminar on ophthalmology as part of the Health Express program, BelTA has learned.

The Health Express initiative was proposed by the Chinese side, and Chinese colleagues arrived in Belarus as part of previously signed agreements on cooperation between the healthcare agencies of the two countries, noted Deputy Healthcare Minister Boris Androsyuk. The guests were present during ophthalmological surgeries at the hospital and presented their achievements in the field of medical equipment before the Belarusian side.

According to Boris Androsyuk, this is only one area of cooperation, plans are in place for training medical professionals and exchanging scientific opinions. “Biotechnology is on the agenda, and we are implementing a project together with the People’s Republic of China. The first results of the project have already been obtained. We are moving to the clinical trial stage. There are intentions to expand this area,” he added.

The deputy minister also drew attention to Belarus’ interest in China’s experience in growing artificial corneas and utilizing specialized medical goods. In turn, Belarusian specialists possess valuable knowledge in the field of complex surgeries on the iris and the fundus. “Both sides have something to learn, and we will all benefit,” Boris Androsyuk emphasized.

Chief Unsalaried Ophthalmologist of the Healthcare Ministry, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Belarusian State Medical University Tatiana Imshenetskaya noted the significance of the event as part of a joint project to study clinical and scientific experience. “Yesterday our Chinese colleagues noted that our center provides consultations and performs surgeries for the most complex cases, including traumas to visual organs and their consequences. Even cataract surgery is exclusive for us. They were stunned by the ability to eliminate complications that arise during surgery. Interesting proposals were made regarding the joint exchange of doctors to train our specialists. This is a very useful project that will benefit both the adult and children populations of Belarus and the friendly People’s Republic of China,” she said.

According to Tatiana Imshenetskaya, the Chinese guests highly valued the Belarusian experience while observing surgeries at Hospital No.10. “We are similar in our professional spirit and attentive attitude toward patients as well as in results of our work,” she added.

An important part of the seminar was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation. Rector of Belarusian State Medical University Sergei Rubnikovich informed that the university had signed the document with the Beijing Tongren Hospital under Capital Medical University. “This memorandum is aimed at cooperation in the field of ophthalmology. Before signing it, we discussed creating a new textbook for students from China and Belarus. Clinical Hospital No.10 is home to a center of ophthalmology, which is actively developed by our university’s Department of Ophthalmology. This is one of the areas of our cooperation. We also have an agreement on research directions and on providing qualified ophthalmological assistance to the populations of both China and Belarus, utilizing the accumulated experience of our scientists,” he explained.
