Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin met with Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), Army General Nguyen Trong Nghia in Minsk, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.
During the negotiations the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral military cooperation, noting its consistent and systematic nature. It was emphasized that interaction between the defense ministries of the two countries relies on a solid historical foundation and mutual respect.
The sides noted with satisfaction positive dynamics in training military personnel. Vietnamese cadets are currently studying at the Military Academy of Belarus while officers have completed advanced training courses. The Belarusian side reaffirmed its readiness to create all the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay and quality training of Vietnamese military personnel.
During the meeting the importance of preserving shared historical memory was highlighted. Matters of interaction between the Main Department for Ideological Work of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army were discussed, including a project to create a joint documentary about Belarusian military advisers who took part in the Vietnam War in 1965-1974.
Viktor Khrenin reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to a peace-loving foreign policy and the principle of defensive sufficiency as well as readiness to promote equal dialogue and cooperation with all interested states.
In turn, Nguyen Trong Nghia noted that he is visiting Belarus for the third time and feels at home here. The head of the Vietnamese delegation stressed that in a changing, turbulent world situation, the Republic of Belarus under the wise leadership of Aleksandr Lukashenko develops successfully in all areas, and all military cooperation events are being implemented.
At the end of the meeting the sides exchanged views on topical matters on the international agenda and confirmed their commitment to further expanding practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
