The Uzbekistan-Belarus Interparliamentary Forum wrapped up with a batch of agreements, contracts, and memorandums, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian leather and footwear company Marko signed an agreement to implement an investment project to increase the production of fashion footwear at a Belarusian-Uzbek joint venture in Kashkadarya Region.
The meetings and negotiations also resulted in mutually beneficial contracts for the supply of dairy products, medicines, and other goods. The parties also signed a number of commercial agreements.
Among the documents signed was a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in labor and employment. It covers several areas, including improvement of labor and employment legislation. The Deputy Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rano Turdiboyeva, stressed that relations with the Belarusian agency responsible for the sector have grown considerably stronger in recent years, while intergovernmental agreements and arrangements have been translated into practical solutions. “Intergovernmental agreements work only when they are backed by the day-to-day work of government agencies,” she stressed.
The forum also featured projects in education. The rectors of the Belarusian State University of Food and Chemical Technologies and Bukhara State Technical University signed an agreement to establish a joint faculty.
The Minsk Oblast Council of Deputies and the Kengash (Council) of People’s Deputies of Andijan Region also formalized their intentions in a cooperation agreement.
“The participation in the forum of parliamentarians, business representatives, people working in the social sector and experts from Belarus and Uzbekistan shows that our partnership has reached a new level. We can say that our joint project has evolved from a bold idea into one of the most recognizable and effective formats of Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation,” Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said on the sidelines of the forum.
The two-day forum also proved productive for two countries. In particular, the parties signed 15 agreements on interregional cooperation. As was emphasized, regular dialogue at the local level is an important factor in strengthening Uzbek-Belarusian strategic partnership, expanding interregional ties, exchanging experience, and strengthening friendship between peoples. The parties are confident in the cooperation built on the economic and social potential of the regions.
The Uzbekistan-Belarus Interparliamentary Forum “Strategic partnership: Development of parliamentary dialogue, new tasks and prospects for cooperation” was held in Khiva on 29-30 September. The Belarusian delegation was headed by Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova.
