Vice President of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) of the Eurasian Patent Organization Vladimir Ryabovolov shared which Belarusian enterprises lead in filing Eurasian patent applications and in which sectors during a press conference, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has been participating in the Eurasian Patent Organization for more than 30 years. The Eurasian Patent Office administers the registration system for patents on inventions and industrial designs. The largest number of Eurasian applications from Belarusian applicants is filed in healthcare and veterinary medicine, measurement and optics, transport, construction, electronic engineering, and materials processing. Over the past five years, the most active applicants have included Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, Vitebsk State Medical University, the Industrial Center plastics manufacturer, the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), the LEMT Scientific and Technical Center unitary enterprise of BelOMO, and others. In terms of the number of industrial design applications, Belarusian applicants rank second, trailing only their Russian counterparts. According to Vladimir Ryabovolov, applications are most frequently filed for vehicles and lifting devices, machinery, machine tools, packaging, as well as containers for the transport and storage of goods. Among the leading filers are MAZ, Amkodor, MZKT, Belshina, the NASB Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering, BelAZ, Brest Meat Processing Plant, ASD-tekhnika, and Bellakt.

Vladimir Ryabovolov also shared that the United States, Russia, China, Switzerland, and Germany lead in patent application activity for inventions. Belarusian applicants rank seventh globally in the number of invention applications, with 2,457 applications submitted from Belarus since 1996. When taking into account population size, Belarus ranks third in terms of the demand for the Eurasian patent system, trailing only Switzerland and Denmark.
