Because of the heat in the Minsk region, about 40 thousand hectares of grain crops were damaged, BelTA learned from Sergey Primachenko, deputy chairman of the committee on agriculture and foodstuffs of the regional executive committee. Grain crops were mainly affected: winter crops - on an area of more than 30 thousand hectares, spring crops - about 8 thousand hectares, as well as drought damaged up to 3 thousand hectares of flax.Frosts negatively affected the crops of maize and potatoes: about 5 thousand .ha and 600 hectares respectively, "- said Sergei Primachenko.
In the main affected areas with light soils. In particular, damage was inflicted to crops in Lubansk, Starodorozhsk, Soligorsk, Slutsk, Berezinsky and Volozhinsky districts. "Oddly enough, the Nesvizh region, where there is a high content of humus in the soil, was also affected by the moisture deficit: in May, only 17% of the precipitation rate fell," he explained.
Given the current situation, it is obvious that grain losses will amount to 30%, flax - up to 35%. According to the expert, most likely the site of damaged crops is planted any one-year group of plants - millet or pare. The decision on compensation of the affected crops will be taken at the next meeting of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
