02.08.2018

The amulet of the 3rd millennium BC was discovered by archeologists on the Krivinsky peat bog under Beshenkovichi (Vitebsk region), the head of the expedition of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Maxim Cherniavsky told BelTA.

Archaeologists are digging the settlement of the Middle and Late Neolithic and Bronze Age Osovets-2, which is located near the village Osovets Beshenkovichi district. This is one of 10 archaeological sites on the Krivinsky peat bogs. "Since yesterday, we are sorting out the cultural layer." There are a lot of finds-there are fragments of broken dishes, flint fragments used to make tools, bone and flint products. "Yesterday at the end of the day we discovered a part of a zoomorphic amulet in the shape of a snake's head. the shape of the head can be seen, that's it, today we found a fragment of an amber button and a bone flute, all of these findings date back to the middle of the III millennium BC, which means they were produced about 4.5 thousand years ago, "said Max Chernyavsky.

Krivinsky peat bog is one of the most unique complexes of the Neolithic and Bronze Age in Eastern Europe. Under the layer of peat are preserved wooden and bone objects, amulets, amber. Belarusian archaeologists annually go on an expedition to the Krivinsky peat bog, conduct excavations and find artifacts with centuries-old history every time
