PM: Social welfare will remain among Belarus' priorities

Wednesday, 03 February 2021

Social welfare will remain among Belarus' priorities, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told journalists, BelTA has learned.

"No one questions the social welfare policy of the Belarusian state. Providing all social guarantees and creating comfortable living conditions for citizens is the main task," Roman Golovchenko said.

The prime minister stressed that the state will not deviate from this course, no matter how difficult it may be. At the same time, he noted that it is important not to breed social dependency. The state should educate citizens to bear responsibility for themselves and their families. “Probably, this is the function of the state - partner,” the head of government added. "The policy of social justice and social support for all segments of the population that need it will be continued. This is the Belarusian path."

The state should also be a business partner, Roman Golovchenko said. Therefore, the government listens to private business, especially as it creates more than 40% of GDP.

"We must make the country more progressive. We must not limit ourselves to any framework established 20 years ago. The world is moving forward, the economy is moving forward, therefore the legal system of business regulation, the approaches of the state should also move forward to keep up to date with the trends," the prime minister stressed.
