Belarusian government to decriminalize economic risks

05.11.2018

The Belarusian government will work on decriminalizing economic risks. First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin made the statement during the KEF 2018 forum in Minsk on 5 November, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “I hope we will soon put the matter to rest in rescinding presidential decree No.488 [on pseudo-entrepreneurship]. After that we will start discussing the problem. If we manage to resolve it, it will fundamentally change Belarus' investment climate for the better. It will greenlight a massive inflow of capital. I am talking about decriminalizing economic crimes.”

The first deputy prime minister believes that economic methods of enforcing the law can be more effective than the standard law enforcement practice. “It is a fundamental decision. It will certainly require thorough discussions. Naturally, it is up to the head of state to make the final decision,” he added.
