Call for effective communication between local authorities, public

06.03.2019

Sustainable regional development is only possible when local authorities promptly respond to all situations where their assistance and interference are needed,” First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov said as he met with the labor collective of the Shchuchin Plant Avtoprovod on 5 March, BelTA has learned.

“A lot in the region depends on local authorities. This pertains to conditions for doing business and a comfortable living environment for local residents. Therefore, situation differs from region to region. I am convinced that for a region to be a success, its local authorities should be very attentive to people's needs, immediately see the changes and know when and where their assistance is needed,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said. He emphasized that such a region will be the first to get aid from the central government, because this aid will be utilized efficiently.

“I have seen today that the authorities of Shchuchin District helped create an investor-friendly environment, launch big projects using private capital, set the stage for unique enterprises which products sell well far beyond the country. This translated into new jobs, decent salaries, and consequently, confidence about the future. If the local administration makes sure that the region has the necessary social, educational and cultural infrastructure, I am convinced people will stay here,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said. He emphasized that it is very important that there are no problems with employment in Shchuchin District, quite the opposite, there is a lack of workforce, because new companies are started so often that they have to invite the workforce from the neighboring districts.

“It is important that the local authorities take care of the social agenda. Many infrastructure projects have been implemented in the field of sports, recuperation, education and healthcare,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said. By the way, during the meeting a suggestion was put forward to build a sports and recreation center with a swimming pool in Shchuchin. The local and regional administration will consider this matter.

It was emphasized that people should also contribute to local development. Joint clean-up activities can bring people together and make them feel more responsible for the area where they live.

A broad number of issues were discussed at the meeting with the labor collective of the Shchuchin Plant Avtoprovod. Those were demographic issues, salaries, education, youth policy, social and sports infrastructure and creation of a comfortable living environment in residential neighborhoods.

Top on the agenda of the meeting was tourism promotion. According to available information, during the First World War, officer Charles de Gaulle was captured by Germans and spent several months in captivity in Shchuchin. The famous French military leader and statesman was kept in one of the factory shop floors. An exposition to commemorate this fact is under consideration. Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized that Shchuchin has many other places of interest that could draw tourists.
