A lot has been done to promote relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan, but there is still room for improvement, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva on 5 September, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that the visit is taking place in the year when Belarus and Uzbekistan mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. “A lot has been done, but there is room for improvement in this difficult time, when we are at a turning point in international relations,” the president said describing the level of bilateral cooperation.
According to him, Belarus is ready to expand relations and share any technology with Uzbekistan. The head of state welcomed effective interaction and mutual support on international platforms and in integration associations. He appreciated Uzbekistan's decision to uphold Belarus' efforts to fast-track its admission to the SCO. “We will always support you, because we share your commitment to peace and friendly relations with neighbors and other countries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
The president believes that the Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum taking place in Minsk these days will give a fresh impetus to relations between the two countries. “I would really like us to switch to regional cooperation (we already have this experience with the Russian Federation), the core of which is the economy. This is important for us, and even more important for Uzbekistan in terms of technology. In this case we will not have to start out from simple trade, but from cooperation between enterprises, technology transfer to Uzbekistan - it would bring some benefits to you. We are absolutely open for this type of cooperation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The head of state emphasized that Belarus has very warm feelings for Uzbekistan and its people who are similar to Belarusians in one important way - they are very hardworking people who had to overcome many trials in their history.
Speaking about his personal attitude to this country, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he had been closely watching developments in Uzbekistan for a long time. He believes that the people of Uzbekistan are lucky with the incumbent leader, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev: “You have a very good president. I tell him right in his face: you should not let down your people who have so much trust in you and who believe you so much.”
“Your president is strongly determined to make life better for Uzbekistan and its people,” the Belarusian leader added. “Uzbekistan has a great future. And here is my advice to you: try to keep your president in office as long as possible. He needs time to show what he can do,” the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that he had visited Uzbekistan several times. Together with Shavkat Mirziyoyev he has recently toured the south of this republic; this part of the country is stunningly beautiful. Uzbekistan's head of state invited the Belarusian counterpart to come to his country again. The president of Belarus admitted that he would like to visit the mountainous regions of this country in winter: “I will try to make time to visit your mountains in the near future.” In turn, Tanzila Narbayeva conveyed greetings from the president of Uzbekistan and an invitation to visit the country: the Belarusian leader is expected to come to Uzbekistan at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Pig breeding complexes should be upgraded, and the upgrade effort should be modeled on that of dairy farms, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting to discuss the country's pig breeding industry, BelTA has learned.
“As we have already said, we need to upgrade pig breeding complexes. Almost 70% of these complexes were built more than 20 years ago. There should be a specific program to bring these complexes into shape,” the head of state emphasized. He added that many of them are outdated and have a high degree of wear and tear.
In this regard, the president recalled that medium-sized pig breeding complexes (for about 24,000 head) were built in some farms upon his instruction back in the day and these complexes have proved to be a good idea. “Why wouldn't you keep doing it?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked.
The head of state also spoke about biological security of pig breeding complexes, which he sees as a matter of national importance. “Please keep in mind that helping agricultural workers with harvesting, providing the agricultural sector with equipment, fertilizers and financial resources is the responsibility of the so-called agricultural business, the responsibility of governors, heads of district executive committees, heads of agricultural enterprises. Meanwhile, the government should strictly control how order and biosecurity are maintained. The same pertains to soil fertility. Reclamation, soil fertility, roads, etc. - this is the area of responsibility of government agencies. Therefore, ensuring biological security and order at complexes is a matter of national importance,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
“Let's think of a centralized program to renovate our pig-breeding complexes and to build new ones, like it was done with dairy complexes,” the head of state continued.
At the same time, he emphasized the importance of a responsible attitude to work and compliance with rules, otherwise modernization will not help. “Thus, today we need to take decisions that will ensure sustainable development of the pig industry. I believe, we need professional and out-of-the-box solutions,” the president noted.

Pteropodidae.

Director of Rosatom's country office in Belarus Stanislav Levitsky talked about plans for cooperation with the Belarusian side at a science festival in Minsk on 2 September, BelTA has learned.
Stanislav Levitsky said: “We implemented the Belarusian nuclear power plant project but our cooperation does not stop at that. We intend to advance partnership with Belarus in a number of areas. A complex program on bilateral cooperation in the area of nuclear non-energy projects has been worked out. It provides for setting up joint manufacturing enterprises, for selling high-tech products in third countries, for joint scientific and technical activities, for getting the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and its institutes involved in Rosatom's scientific research and R&D work.”
Speaking about a research reactor in Belarus, the executive noted that an intergovernmental agreement is in development. “It is complicated matter. Any project must rest on a clear feasibility study. Several rounds of negotiations will be held with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and central government agencies to work out the final configuration of the research reactor, to make the decision on how exactly we will implement this project,” Stanislav Levitsky noted.
Belarus is considering building another nuclear power plant. Stanislav Levitsky said: “We are always ready to lend a helping help to meet specific needs of Belarus. If Belarusian partners want to build the second nuclear power plant, then we are ready to participate in it considering our manufacturing cooperation ties and synergy. But Belarus will have to make the decision. We don't influence decision making in any way. However, we are always in favor of development of nuclear energy industry.”
He also remarked that Rosatom supports initiatives like the science festival. “I'd like to thank the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for partnership. We understand how important it is to get young people involved in science, engineering, to get them immersed in manufacturing and scientific culture. Future personnel for economy branches are formed while they are in school,” the director of Rosatom's country office in Belarus stressed.
The science festival took place in the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in Minsk on 2 September. It was the fifth science festival so far this year. The festival included traditional zones such as healthcare, robots, space industry as well as brand new formats such as a zone dedicated to scientific fiction (sci-fi), a venue for meetings with prominent scientists, writers, and cosmonauts, and even a concert by a robot orchestra.
The information center for nuclear energy of the city of Minsk with assistance of AO Atomstroyexport (the engineering division of Rosatom) organized the scientific and education venue Atom Team as part of the science festival. Visitors could participate in engineering workshops and popular science lectures, intellectual games, and atomic quizzes.
